A perda de massa muscular em cães e gatos pode ocorrer devido a diferentes condições patológicas, sendo a sarcopenia e a caquexia duas das mais comuns1. Essas alterações estão associadas ao aumento da morbidade e mortalidade dos animais e humanos. Embora compartilhem algumas semelhanças, elas têm etiologias distintas e requerem abordagens terapêuticas diferenciadas2.
